Welcome to the 2007-2008 School Year!  Mancos School District RE-6, nestled at the gateway to Mesa Verde, and in the heart of the beautiful Mancos Valley, reflects a unique combination of rural, small town values, and the dedication of highly qualified teachers and staff committed to providing all students the skills to thrive in the 21st Century.

Our school district has instituted an administrative reorganization this year in an effort to better realize our mission that every child learns every day in a safe environment.  Mrs. Laura Harper serves as our K-12 Principal with the assistance of Mrs. Jeanette Allen as K-12 Assistant Principal.  We feel this arrangement allows for strong communication district wide and supports a continuum of curriculum, standards mastery, outcomes and skill development across grade levels and classrooms from kindergarten to graduation.

Current research suggests that dedicated, personal relationships between caring adults and learners greatly enhance chances for student success.  Our enviable class sizes and student to teacher ratio of 15 to 1 provides opportunity for every child’s needs to be identified and met, and every child’s dreams supported.  Our rigorous curriculum is supported by relevant learning experiences, highly qualified instructors and support staff as well as a caring community dedicated to all students.

Mancos High School is the oldest functioning high school in the state of Colorado. This historic rock building has been completely renovated and provides a rich, unique and inviting learning environment. Like the quarried classic rock that sits on a 100 year old foundation, we would like to believe our children are provided a solid and time tested foundation to begin their journey to independence, civic responsibility and personal achievement.

The resources I am most proud of are the faculty, students and families of Mancos. Our children reflect the natural beauty that surrounds us. Dedicated parental support is a testament to the small town values that are still prevalent in our community. Devoted faculty, commitment to team work, academic rigor, and diverse extracurricular activities help make Mancos schools a distinguished district in the southwest region.

District Goals:

  1. We will provide a safe and drug-free learning environment.

  2. We aspire to have each student reach a high level of individual achievement via measurable academic growth.

  3. We will maintain fiscal responsibility.

  4. We will actively seek community involvement in District activities.
