GOAL: Mancos School District will master core content with 21st Century Skills through a learner centered environment.

    21st Century Skills
21st Century skills are best defined as mastery of traditional core subject areas (math, science, language arts, social sciences, world language and the arts) within the context of 21st Century themes: global awareness; information, media, financial, economic, health, civic literacy; technological literacy. These themes provide relevance and significance to core content areas.
Within this framework, 21st Century learners must learn and exhibit life skill traits such as 1) creativity 2) problem solving 3) collaboration 4) initiative 5) accountability 6) cultural proficiency. It is these skill sets that serve as the catalyst for learning and discovery. They provide the basis for a Learning Centered environment as well as the key for future success.

    Learner-Centered Environment
The Learner-Centered environment places the student as an active part of the instructional process by becoming an active participant in planning, evaluating, and assessing what they are learning and how comprehensively they are learning it. Learner-centered classrooms fully engage students in the   development, assessment, and responsibility for meeting learning standards.

    Standards Driven
A Standards Driven Education structure has the following elements present: A guaranteed and viable curriculum is in place, formative and summative assessments are aligned to the standards, being data driven, the standards are the foundation of lesson design, time becomes the variable and learning is the constant, and options become available for those students who have reached proficiency in standards
