Mancos School District made a commitment to student-centered learning about ten years ago. Project-based learning was the method chosen to accomplish this commitment. In the summer of 2019, elementary and secondary teachers engaged in a three-day training with PBLWorks, one of the nation’s foremost experts in PBL. Since then, Mancos teachers have received professional development in other facets of PBL, including Equity, High-Quality PBL, PBL + SEL, Sustained Inquiry, PBL + Early Childhood Education, Sustaining Inquiry, and Managing the Process. Most new teachers and administrators receive PBL 101 professional development within 18 months of beginning their employment with the district.
